Years ago Arlene Sanchez and I opened our first gym . Although our facility was originally under another name , our company name was always FIT NHB and eventually it became our gym name . From the beginning we were a mixed martial arts program when there were very few MMA facilities anywhere . Over the years we have taught many students and trained a large amount of competitors both amateur and professional . After countless road trips , fighters and events we became known as a gym that consistently produced quality competitors . Our competitors began to win championships and FIT NHB became the first gym in New Mexico to produce a Zuffa (parent company of UFC) World Champion . In a town with another gym considered one of the best in the world we have been tagged second best which we never felt was accurate . While we are in same business we are a different type facility and to us its like comparing apples and oranges . Our gyms have never competed with each other so how can anyone really say one is better than the other ? If all you look at are the name fighters who claim a gym that can be deceiving . That is a measure of popularity but not a true measure of the program . There is a difference between a gym that builds the fighters and a faclity where the fighters build the facility . 90 % of FIT NHB fighters were built from scratch and we are very proud of what we have achieved as a team . Noone has ever done more for our fight careers as coaches than we have for theirs as fighters . It was time for not only some of the fighters to move to the next level but the coaches as well . That’s why when a opportunity came to go to Phoenix to work with some established fighters I took a week off and made the trip . What I found was another special group of fighters that were long time training partners and it felt very similar to FIT NHB . I accepted the opportunity to coach the fighters in Phoenix and immediately started training two of them for their upcoming UFC fights . The new coaching position won’t be instead of FIT NHB , it will be in addition to FIT NHB . We are very excited about the growth potential for everyone involved .
